How to use Video to GIF

  1. 01

    Upload or start

Open a video that your browser can decode and check its preview.

  2. 02

    Adjust and review

Trim the start and end. Choose output dimensions and frame rate; shorter clips and fewer pixels reduce memory use.

  3. 03

    Export and use

Convert, review the loop and download the GIF. Use compression or Workspace for further edits.

Before you process

There is no single crash-proof GIF length. Duration, dimensions, frame rate and device memory all matter. Start with a short clip and reduce settings if the tool reports a limit.

Get a result you can use

A better first try.

  • Start with 2–6 seconds, around 480 pixels wide and 10–15 fps, then adjust for your use case.
  • A MOV or MKV extension does not guarantee a compatible codec. Try a browser-playable MP4 when decoding fails.
  • GIF has no audio. Keep a video version when sound matters.

Know before you start

Your questions, answered.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Trim the clip, reduce the output width or lower the frame rate. Preview again to check that the important action is still clear.

Can I convert an iPhone video?

Often, if your browser supports its codec. If a MOV will not decode, export a browser-playable MP4 and try again.

How long can my GIF be?

The safe length depends on resolution, frame rate and device memory. Follow the tool’s current limits and use short clips for more reliable exports.

Can I remove the background too?

Yes. Use the separate Video to Transparent GIF workflow, where removal settings and any paid processing are shown.
